You’re probably all up on your hymn-trivia and you’re aware of this already, but if not, you know “It Is Well With My Soul” ? Did you know that it was written just after the lyricist (Horatio Spafford) found out his four daughters had drowned at sea? After learning where the words came from, I can barely sing them anymore.

It is very well with my soul.

Yes, I think knowing that story about “It is Well” contributed to making it my favorite hymn (and the first that I solidly knew all 4 verses by heart). We can have comfort in God through anything. If my children were to die, could I sing that song? It’s too awful to think of, but I believe God’s grace would be greater than my grief.
By the way, who’s the cute blonde that you and Mark took all the pictures of on the east side? Oh, wait…
